Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about postpartum doula support, what it costs, and how to get started.
What is a postpartum doula?
A postpartum doula supports your family in the weeks after your baby is born. That means practical, hands-on help with newborn care, feeding, rest, and recovery, plus education so you feel confident as a new parent.
What does a postpartum doula do during a visit?
Every visit is shaped around what you need most. Common help includes soothing and diapering your baby, supporting feeding routines, giving you space to sleep or shower, light tidying, and answering your questions about newborn life.
Is a doula the same as a nurse or midwife?
No. A doula provides emotional, physical, and educational support, but not medical care. A doula doesn't diagnose conditions or replace your doctor, midwife, or pediatrician, and will point you back to them whenever something needs medical attention.
Do you offer lactation support?
Yes. Our postpartum doula is a certified prenatal lactation educator with newborn care experience in feeding support, and offers education and practical help whether you breastfeed, bottle feed, or do both. For medical feeding concerns, we'll help you connect with your pediatrician or a lactation consultant.
What's the difference between daytime and overnight support?
Daytime visits focus on newborn care, feeding, and recovery help while you're awake and want a hand. Overnight care covers the night shift so you can sleep while your baby is cared for. Extended support combines both over several weeks.
How much does postpartum support cost?
Rates start at $55 per hour for daytime support, $65 per hour for overnight support, and $75 per hour for extended support. A free 30-minute consult helps us recommend the right amount of time for your family.
Do you accept Carrot or any form of insurance?
Not at this time. Our services are self-pay only, and we don't accept Carrot, insurance, HSA, or FSA payments.
What areas do you serve?
We serve the Los Angeles area, the San Fernando Valley area, the Ventura County area, and the Antelope Valley area. Not sure whether you're covered? Include your city and zip code on the consult form and we'll let you know.
Is your doula CPR certified?
Yes. Our postpartum doula holds Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
When should I reach out?
Many families contact us during pregnancy so their dates are set before the baby arrives, but you're welcome to reach out at any time, including after your baby is born.
